February 1998 - Ohio MedCenter Foundation, Inc. sells its assets to Marion General Hospital, thus creating the “core “ of funding for the Marion Community Foundation May 1998 - Ohio MedCenter Foundation, Inc. amends its Articles of Incorporation, creating the Marion Community Foundation under the leadership of Board of Trustees Chairwoman, Deborah Alspach September 1998 - Deborah Shade begins duties as the foundation’s first full-time president and chief executive officer October 1998 - Marion Community Foundation opens its doors at its new office, 238 E. Center St., Marion, Ohio November 1999 - Gary Sims begins his tenure as the new chairman of the Board of Trustees of the foundation.
